How we research our guides

What goes into a SnapUpBargains buying guide, where the information comes from, and what we don’t do.

What our guides are

Our buying guides compare the popular options in a product category side by side, so you can see what actually separates them and work out which one fits your needs. Each guide covers a handful of products, explains the features that matter for that kind of product, and points out which pick suits which kind of buyer.

Where the information comes from

  • Retailer and manufacturer listings. Specifications such as size, capacity, battery life, materials and included accessories come from the product’s own listing.
  • Buyer feedback. We look at the patterns in buyer reviews, such as common praise and recurring complaints, rather than any single review.
  • Side-by-side comparison. Specs are lined up in comparison tables, and every guide includes a short “What Actually Differs” table showing only the specs that genuinely differ between the picks.

How products are picked

We start from the products people are most likely to be choosing between in that category, then narrow them down to options that differ in a meaningful way: price level, size, features or the kind of buyer they suit. We leave out near-identical listings, such as the same product sold in several colours.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t claim hands-on testing. Our guides are research-based. If a guide hasn’t been tested in person, it won’t say it has.
  • We don’t publish star ratings or scores we can’t back up. Instead of made-up scores, we show the specs and explain the trade-offs.
  • We don’t quote fixed prices. Prices change constantly, so we link you to the retailer to see today’s price.

How we use software and AI

We use software tools, including AI, to help gather product information, organise it into comparisons and draft our guides. Every guide then goes through automated checks that remove claims we can’t support, such as hands-on testing, made-up ratings and fixed prices.

Keeping guides up to date

Products are updated, discontinued and replaced all the time, and listings change. If you spot something that’s wrong or out of date, please tell us through our contact page and we’ll put it right.

How we make money

Our guides are free to read. When you buy through some of the links in them, the retailer may pay us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. This never changes the price you pay. You can read more in our Affiliate Disclosure, or find out more about us.
